Biomega Amsterdam Women’s Bicycle
I got this bike many years ago from an architect in Chicago. It was a present for my wife. I still have the box that it was shipped in. Feels absolutely majestic to ride, like being on top of the world, completely upright, balanced. Turns heads, starts conversations, hard to say exactly what it is, but this bike has personality in spades.
From the brochure:
AMS | AMSTERDAM
Amsterdam is the first purely woman's bike designed and made by Biomega. The shaft drive enables you to have a virtually maintenance free bike, no greasy trousers and stuck evening dress. Integration in general being Biomega's big credo, a hub dynamo, hub gears, a shaft drive and the logo are integrated. With the AMS a new colour of Beatrice Santiccioli will be introduced: Florence Lilac.
AMS is in design terms part of the retro wave like the Beetle, Firebird and Mini automobiles. It is an attempt to revive the Old Dutch bike style. We have chosen a silver colour on the mudguard to match our shaft drive colour instead of the traditional white at the rear to reflect light.
Apart from being a reference to a classic European typology there is also a reference to our MN bikes. It is a kind of inverted MN in profile.
Colours: Florence Lilac, Aspen Pearl White and Dragon Black
Design and Technical details:
Amsterdam is the first Biomega bicycle designed specifically for women. With the AMS, Beatrice Santiccioli introduces a new colour, Florence Lilac, and our shaft makes for a virtually maintenance-free bike and the absence of the oily trousers and tangled evening dresses that come with ordinary bike chains.
When you think Biomega, think integration: the AMS brings together a hub dynamo, 3-speed hub gear, shaft drive and clean, deco design.

GEOMETRY
Biomega frames are designed with a specific purpose: All for urban use, some to be aggressive and versatile, some to be comfortable and easygoing. Toby "Magic" Louis-Jensen makes the Geometries.
CONTINUOUS GEARS
All Biomega rear hubs have low-maintenance continuous internal gears - no more combining 21 or more external gears that only amount to 10 "real" gears.
SHAFT DRIVE
A special integrated transmission offers a host of advantages: no greasy trousers, hardly any maintenance and extreme durability. (Tech-heads: this shaft has less transmission loss than the average chain.)
BEAUTIFUL COULOURS
In plain words, Beatrice Santiccioli is a colour genius. She developed the colours for Apple's iMac in collaboration with the Apple ID Group and has worked on projects for Illy, Swatch, and Nike. She works as a consultant for Apple and Herman Miller - and now she brings her design expertise to Biomega bicycles.
Note that the Amsterdam bikes are ideally suited for people within approx. 1.55 - 1.85 metres (5.0 - 6.2 ft).
